He understood the gift that had been given to him from the day he was born down at Mākaha beach and he wanted to recreate that for the communities of Oʻahu, he wanted to create a safe environment for children around Hawaiʻi and really the world to experience the ocean and to learn about it. A father of eight with a passion for education and giving back, DeSoto created Nā Kama Kai (Children of the Sea) – a non-profit organization that brings ocean-based safety and conservation programs directly to Hawaii’s youth. Nā Kama Kai is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth by creating, conducting and supporting ocean-based programs, specifically targeting ocean safety and conservation awareness in order to increase the capacity of youth in the community through Hawaiian values, culture and environmental education.
